WHipps Ledges
Recreating in Ohio is like giving a rectal exam to to angry bull. but (no pun intended) a dedicated recreationist can find a good session if they are quick and quiet. if bouldering or top roping your thing Whipps ledges is the park for you. located conveniently 20 minutes from cleveland or akron this metro park is chuck full of fun for all levels of climbers. with a cliff line of sharron conclomerate sandstone 20 to 35 feet the top rope area is a low commitment paradise. for bouldering a string of about 15 chunks of stone lie at the base of the cliff line. most of the boulder problems here are pretty easy vo to v6 however some more aggressive lines can be had as well The widow Maker v9 is one of them. a complete guide to this area is hard to come by THE RUFF GUIDE has put out multiple mini guides to area these guides can be obtained by running into the author(jeff boni) at the park or being patient and getting the info as i post on this site. Before you climb here you should know climbing is by permit only! but most climbers i know are to poor to afford the insurance required to obtain said permit.(hence the rectal exam )the angry bull..park rangers that may or may not ticket you when ya get caught. so dont get caught!!!!!and if you do be sure to be polite as your gear is impounded. but if you are lucky enuff to be on friendly terms with a responsible adult, you can always top rope on there equipment. or do as i do slide in and out to quick to be caught. ultimately a new policy should be enacted so that park usage is not a matter of constituent abusage (made that word up) for those how want to take to take that bull by the horns and check its prostate git E up!!!

whipps ledges permit policy pros n cons
Over the next few days we will post a mini guide to climbing at whipps ledges a cleveland ohio metro park it is unfortunate that park users need a permit to recreate in this park. climbers are not the user group who should penalized due to the ignorant acts of a uneducated local user group. the permit policy only assures that locals will drive to west Virginia or Kentucky to recreate. if you want to climb here you risk being ticketed. how lame are the park officials? that all depends on your level of polite and apologetic candor you can produce when a Ranger catches you climbing . no wonder le bron left cleveland.
